TAMA MP1455BU Mike Portnoy Signature 14"x5.5" Snare Drum
A Versatile Signature Sound from a Progressive Icon
Designed in collaboration with legendary drummer Mike Portnoy, the TAMA MP1455BU Signature Snare Drum delivers the power, articulation and tonal flexibility demanded by one of the most influential drummers of the modern era. Built from an 8mm, 9-ply Bubinga shell, this 14"x5.5" snare produces a bold, punchy tone with rich low-end support and focused projection – ideal for high-energy performance.
Three-Way Strainer for Instant Sonic Options
At the heart of this signature model is Portnoy’s unique three-way snare strainer system (MCS100A/MCS70B). This clever design allows players to quickly switch between different snare wire configurations, delivering multiple tonal palettes without needing to swap snares mid-set. From tight, articulate snap to broader, more open resonance, this mechanism offers outstanding flexibility for studio and stage.
Premium Components for Precision & Stability
Die-cast hoops provide enhanced attack, sharper rimshots and reliable tuning stability – essential for progressive rock’s dynamic playing styles. The MSL-SCT lugs contribute to clean, consistent tension across the head, while the MS20SN14S snare wires provide crisp response and sensitivity. With its combination of premium materials and innovative design, the MP1455BU is built to perform at the highest level.
